Staycation Ideas Online Dating Secret Friends Guide
Staycation Ideas For Your Local Area
By Julia Barnes
A staycation is "a budget holiday in which the
vacationer stays at home, or near home, while creating
the environment of a traditional vacation," explains
Matt Wixon, a Dallas Morning News columnist and author
of The Great American Staycation.
He adds, "It means getting out of the rut of your
daily life. It means not planning a stay-at-home holiday
that combines leisure time with cleaning out the garage,
building bookshelves and a trip to get the car
repaired."
Instead, the best staycation ideas are researched ahead
of time, with as many household chores taken care of
before the process begins.
Behind The Scenes Tours In Your Local Area
Some of Matt Wixon’s favorite ideas for a successful
staycation include behind-the-scenes tours at company
museums, factories, fire stations, police stations,
movie theaters, bowling alleys, TV stations, radio stations,
newspaper production facilities and other places the
kids might be curious about.
Museums, observatories and planetariums also offer
a great variety of thought-provoking displays for kids
to look at. "My kids spent nearly two hours at
just one exhibit involving golf balls rolling up and
down hills to show the science of roller coasters,"
says Wixon.
Romantic Scenic Train Rides
"A new trend is the museum sleepover, a program
aimed at preteens and teenagers." Scenic train
rides ranging from 30 minutes to the entire day have
a romantic appeal for adults but often cater to kids
with specialty shows. Naturally, water parks are huge
stay-cation hits with kids, as are zoos and aquariums
that offer special lunches, VIP tours and camp programs
for kids.
Staycation ideas aren’t just for families, as they
can be the perfect fit for frugal adults too. The idea
is to schedule the week off work and participate in
a full string of activities, rather than just plan one
single date.
Take Your Date On Your Next Trip
That’s what makes staycations particularly meaningful
and refreshing. A sunset dinner cruise on a lake makes
a wonderful date. Wine-tasting and winery tours are
popular from Napa Valley to Lake Chautauqua. Community
theater and touring Broadway productions are another
option if you’re into the arts.
There are many options to review, including historic
home tours, museums and bed-and-breakfasts are suitable
dates. Outdoor activities like horseback riding and
canoeing are wonderful day trips -- and try a concert
by night! To get that "away from it all" feeling,
stay at a local resort, indulge in a spa service and
do a little shopping.
Have Fun And Relax On Your Staycation
Despite all the benefits of the aforementioned staycation
ideas, there are a few potential drawbacks. First of
all, it’s easy to lose focus. People need to remain
committed to making their stay-cation as close to a
traditional vacation as possible.
"It’s a good idea to give the staycation
a start and end date and devote as much of the time
in between to relaxing, having fun and breaking out
of a rut," says Wixon. "For any vacation,
staycation or traditional, you have to unplug. Unplug
from work, from your chores, from the daily compulsion
to get things done."
Some people literally need to get out of their comfort
zones and familiar environments to truly unwind.

More Staycation Facts....
How long have people been enjoying staycation?
Technically people have been enjoying
staycations for hundreds of years. Most people simply
called it a day off or a sick day. But the buzz word
has now made its way into commercials so that people
are looking at staying at home in a more appealing
manner.
Just because you are staying
home does not mean you cannot get some rest and relaxation.
If anything, staycations are even more relaxing because
you are in the comfort of your own home. So you can
call the time off anything you wish.
