Fears And Phobias Online Dating Secret Friends Guide
Fears And Phobias Affecting Your Social Interactions And Relationships
By Janine Jensenoris
When you’re dealing with social anxiety, the fears
and phobias associated with this sort of disorder tend
to take some fairly standard forms. Yet, there are odd
phobias and symptoms that can sometimes manifest with
a social anxiety disorder as well.
At the same time, the phobias are sometimes associated
with other mental disorders, either growing out of them
or even causing them. So finding an accurate diagnosis
and beginning an appropriate treatment can sometimes
be a bit of a challenge.
Among the fears and phobias that stem from an anxiety
disorder might be a fear of using the telephone. Because
the person will have to converse with the person on
the other end of the line, whether it’s a stranger or
even someone they know, they may tend to get tongue-tied
or make other mistakes.
Public Speaking Phobia
Eventually the anxiety about making stupid mistakes
and being judged negatively becomes so bad that they
simply can’t pick up the phone, either to answer or
make a call. This is a very particularized form of a
public speaking phobia, and in many ways made worse
because the conversation is one-on-one, with all mistakes
being unmistakable.
Then there are other disorders that might have some
connection with the phobias and fears of a social anxiety
disorder, either being caused by it, or instead having
a part in making it worse.
Feeling Isolated And Battling Substance Abuse
For example, because of the isolation people feel with
these anxiety disorders, they often end up suffering
from clinical depression as well. Or because they might
manage to alleviate the symptoms of an anxiety attack
by self-medicating with alcohol or drugs, they might
find themselves battling substance abuse problems.
Social anxiety has been correlated with other things
too, such as bipolar disorder and post-traumatic stress
disorder.
Past History May Help Provide Solutions
Sometimes it can take some time to sort out the various
fears and phobias that might stem from a social anxiety
disorder, or might equally well relate to another mental
health issue. Learning the patient’s past history
becomes essential in making a review and creating an
accurate diagnosis.
It’s fortunate, though, that many of the medications
used to treat illnesses such as depression are also
effective treatments for social anxiety disorders. So
in many cases, a certain degree of treatment can be
enacted, even while the strands of the related illnesses
are still being unraveled.
