DIY Weddings With Tips And Ideas
By Natalie Glass
Sometimes people who want to save money will plan DIY
weddings (do it yourself). They may simply have some
great creative ideas of their own, or perhaps they cannot
afford the fees wedding planners charge.
While this is not necessarily a bad thing, some brides
may try to take on too much, so here is an idea as to
what many people believe is perhaps, just enough and
not too much to handle.
Creating Your Own Wedding Favors
The wedding favors are one thing that most agree can
be done by the bride, with possibly a little help and
without too much stress. Perhaps the most popular DIY
wedding favor has to do with candy; these can be wrapped
up with tulle and tied with a ribbon, and you can add
a small charm to make them a little extra special.
Sachets are also very popular, and again can be tied
up using the same type of materials. Rosemary is a very
strong pleasant scent that can be used in the place
of potpourri if you so desire.
A Simple Centerpiece
When it comes to DIY weddings the centerpieces are
also popular items that can be handmade without too
much trouble. The idea is to try to keep each wedding
centerpiece as simple as possible, perhaps with a simple
floral or candle arrangement.
You can also gather up several pieces of driftwood,
pine cones, branches or anything similar and then spray
paint them in a silvery, shimmery color; when you add
a few tea lights you have a great centerpiece. Of course,
you can use any color that will match your colors as
long as it shimmers.
The Pillow And The Flower Basket
Other DIY wedding ideas to review your options include
making things like the ring bearer’s pillow or
even the flower girl’s basket yourself. There
are even some great ideas for gifts for the wedding
party that fall under the DIY category; you can make
some shirts for the groom’s men or the bride’s
maids fairly easily.
Start with appropriately sized plain t-shirts and then
surf the web for free templates for words such as groom,
best man, etc.
Personalized Wedding Invitations
Many of the DIY weddings also include creating your
own wedding invitation design; while this can be time
consuming it also ensures that your invitations are
one-of-a-kind and that a whole lot of love went into
making them.
You may want to consider getting a few friends and
family together, along with a bottle of wine or two,
and have an invitation making/addressing party. This
is not only a lot of fun it also reduces the amount
of stress on the bride when she has people helping and
keeping it to a more manageable task.

How much should I budget for my wedding?
You are automatically saving some
money in your budget by DIY wedding planning. But the
rest of the budget cannot be determined by anyone but
you and your future spouse. The one thing to keep in
mind is that weddings are expensive. Even the smallest
weddings can cost a few hundred dollars.
Large weddings can cost thousands.
A good way to start your budget is to make your guest
list. Once your guest list is complete then you need
to start looking at what you will be wearing in the
wedding. Wedding gowns can take up a huge portion of
the budget if you are not careful.
After you have figured out the
cost for clothing it is then time to think about the
reception. A large reception is going to be costly for
two reasons. The first is the space you have to rent
unless someone donates their home or yard for your
reception.
The second is food and beverage
cost. The more people you invite equals the more money
that will be spent. One aspect of budgeting that often
is under represented is decorations. Decorations can
quickly add up and consume your budget if you are not
careful.
Decorations include the flowers
for the bouquets and boutonnieres. A rule of thumb is
to take your first initial tally from all the costs
and then double it. That will probably be your expenses.
From there it is a matter of trimming things until it
fits your budget.
