Cruises Mediterranean With Many Onboard Facilities
By Julia Barnes
Imagine sailing aboard a cruises Mediterranean ship
called "SeaDream I" or "SeaDream II"
with your arms wrapped around your loved one, listening
to the calm waves and the gentle sounds of the pianist
at the bar.
Small casinos offer a bit of high rolling excitement
on the seas, as do the kayaks, jet skis and sailboats
for rent, but you’ll probably spend more time dining
at the world-class restaurants, indulging yourselves
at the spa or relaxing on cozy featherbeds in your cabin,
watching TV.
Cruising For Seven Nights
You may sail from Monte Carlo to Civitavecchia, stopping
at Viareggio, Porto Ercole, St. Tropez, Portofino and
Elba; or you might take a Rome-to-Barcelona voyage,
stopping in Monte Carlo, Marseille and Viareggio. You’ll
be surprised how much you can pack into seven nights!
The only downside to this Mediterranean cruise ship
is that eventually you’ll have to get off.
Your first cruise can be quite an ordeal. If you’ve
never experienced all that cruises Mediterranean destinations
have to offer, then try Princess Mediterranean cruise
line’s "Sea Princess," a nice medium-sized
ship carrying 1,950 passengers.
Enjoying Yourself At The Major Port Stops
You’ll start and end in London and partake in Italy,
France, Spain and Portugal during the exceptionally
pleasant spring or summer months. You can choose all-inclusive
meals or port dining options. You can get off the ship
and enjoy yourself at the major port stops, but you’ll
also have great sailing views from balconies and enjoy
the open-air cinema or onboard spa.
On your 14-day Mediterranean cruise ship adventure,
you’ll stop in Vigo to see Lisbon, Cannes, Naples and
Corsica; or you may choose to start in Cadiz to see
Monte Carlo, Florence, Pisa, Sardinia and Mallorca.
On both itineraries, you’ll see Rome, Barcelona and
Gibraltar.
The ship’s steak-house has gotten rave reviews, as
has the "Ultimate Balcony Dinner" option.
People of all ages will likely be onboard and you’ll
find many a Brit sailing Princess.
Independence Of The Seas
Royal Caribbean’s "Independence of the Seas"
(nicknamed "Indy") is the best of the cruises
Mediterranean family ships. It can be a challenge to
find a ship fun enough for the kids but classy enough
for the adults, but this new ultra-vessel has it all!
Fitting 3,634 passengers and weighing in at an astounding
160,000 tons, this ship is the largest in the world,
so as you can imagine it’s essentially a resort on water.
You’ll enjoy 14 nights during the summer months traveling
from Southampton to stops in Cannes, Nice, Livorno (Florence/Pisa),
Malaga, Vigo, Cagliari (Sardinia), Barcelona, Civitavecchia
(Rome), Gibraltar and Lisbon.
Fitness Center, Spa And Whirlpool Hot Tubs
You’ll be treated to onboard ice skating, rock climbing,
shopping, salsa dancing and mini golf. You’ll enjoy
the spacious suites, as well as the fitness center,
spa and whirlpool hot tubs cantilevered over the ocean.
The downside is that off-loading can be slow with so
many people.
If it’s luxury you’re looking for on your cruises Mediterranean
deals, then you’ll want to hop aboard Hebridean’s "Hebridean
Spirit." This yacht is like a floating country
inn with large luxurious suites (with the smallest over
200 square feet), concierge service caliber staff and
gourmet dining.
Private Tours And Narrated Sailing
You’ll also have access to private tours and narrated
sailing, not to mention the smaller size ship gets you
into ports without delay. The Mediterranean cruises
usually last for 6-8 nights and feature themes like
"Footloose on Spanish Shores" (visiting walking
routes in Malaga, Alicante, Motril, Mallorca, Menorca
and Cartagena) or "Visual Feast" (visiting
museums and art galleries in Lipari, Naples, Catania
and Malta).
The spa, service and upper level sun-deck make this
cruise a treat, although there are no balconies or swimming
pools.

More Mediterranean Cruises Facts....
What are some cruise lines that offer Mediterranean
cruises?
There are many cruise lines that
offer Mediterranean cruises. In fact you can count on
all of the big names in cruising to have destinations
in the Mediterranean. Some of the most common are: Carnival
Cruises, Holland America, Norwegian Cruise Line, Celebrity
Cruise Line and Royal Caribbean.
Many will offer the same ports
of call but will vary on lengths of stays and pricing.
Some of the more luxurious cruise lines such as Crystal
Cruises will offer more luxurious amenities than some
of the basic cruise lines will offer. If you are trying
to decide on which cruise line is best for you, it is
best to talk with a travel agent to see what each cruise
line has to offer.
Another wise tip is to check
out the reviews for each cruise line. See what other
fellow adventurers have to say and then start looking
at the dates you want to travel. Some cruise lines may
only offer cruises of the Mediterranean at certain times
of year so you should factor that into your decision
as well.
