Anxiety Disorder Online Dating Secret Friends Guide
Anxiety Disorder And Restructuring Thought Processes
By Janine Jensenoris
There are many mental disorders stemming from anxiety,
and a lot of them have panic attacks as one of their
potential symptoms. So, if a person begins experiencing
severe attacks of this nature, it’s easy to assume
that they are part of a larger anxiety disorder.
But doctors have realized that in some cases, those
other disorders can be eliminated as explanations, and
all that’s left is a mental disorder that features only
those panic attacks.
One of the most telling characteristics of this sort
of anxiety illness is that the attacks for the most
part seem to come out of the blue. The fear arises instantaneously
and often manifests as a terror of something that should
not rationally be feared.
Many Factors Linking To Cause Of Anxiety Disorder
There can be triggers, such as a high level of stress
in a person’s life, a physical illness, or even certain
medications they might be taking. But frequently the
trigger for any specific anxiety attack will not appear
related to those things, but will focus on something
for which this level of anxiety is way out of proportion.
Research and review into the causes of panic disorder,
as it does with so many of these conditions, points
in a myriad of directions. There appears to be a genetic
component, and yet other studies into this anxiety disorder
also point to body chemistry as at least a partial factor.
Fight Or Flight Response
For example, some researchers believe an imbalance
in the limbic system results in false information being
sent to the region of the brain known as the amygdala,
which triggers the body’s "fight or flight"
response.
What may surprise people is that the best treatment
for the type of anxiety disorder characterized by panic
attacks tends not to involve drugs. Anxiety medications
generally don’t have the best effect, whereas
cognitive behavioral therapy works quite well.
Steps To Prevent Panic Attacks
This type of therapy teaches the person to restructure
their thought processes, in a way teaching them to "talk
themselves down" from the sudden belief in fears
that prompt panic attacks.
This restructuring can be reinforced by family members
or even support groups. The first step in treatment
is recognizing the disorder, followed by the systematic
restructuring of the internal factors that help the
panic attacks take hold.
